Arizona State University's football team is a source of pride for many residents of Arizona, but a new recruit will have to face an uncertain future after being arrested for having sexual conduct with a minor.

The recruit, freshman Ramon Abreu, was a redshirt during the 2010 season after committing to ASU's football team during the end of his senior year. Ranked as the 10th best player in Arizona coming out of high school, Abreu was charged with engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old high school freshman while he was 18. The incident was reported by the girl's mother.

Sexual Offense Laws

Arizona has a series of very strict laws pertaining to sexual conduct with a minor, even if the acts were consensual between both parties. Arizona Revised Statute 12-1405 states that sexual contact with any individual who is under 18 years of age is classified as a felony crime in Arizona. Sexual contact with a minor between the ages of 15 and 17 is considered a class 6 felony and is punishable by six months in prison; therefore, Abreu may be facing a significant amount of legal ramifications since the girl was under the age of 15.
